Miami by JLL Pearl

Miami is the baroque pearl necklace tourmaline and labradorite I made for the pleasure of colour — not just one, but all of them together. Large baroque freshwater pearls alternate with round tourmalines in green and red-brown, small grey labradorite beads, and gold flower spacers that catch the light between every stone. The whole length moves when worn.

The stones

The tourmalines are not all the same. Moreover, they range from deep forest green to rust and red-brown — small round beads that read differently depending on the light. Between them, labradorite in pale grey introduces a cooler note. Therefore, the palette is warmer and more varied than a pearl piece might suggest.

How to wear it

Miami is a long sautoir. Furthermore, it can be worn as a single strand falling to the chest, or doubled at the throat for a more layered effect. Because the weight is distributed along the full length, it sits naturally on the body. Still, it works as well with linen as with evening clothes.

I make Miami slowly, sorting each stone by colour and size before threading. As a result, no two pieces are identical, even though the structure stays the same. Because the stones are natural, their exact shades vary slightly from piece to piece.
