Tara by JLL Pearl

Tara is the freshwater pearl macramé choker necklace I built on one contrast — the softness of a natural pearl against the density of a hand-braided black cord. At the centre, an AA quality freshwater pearl sits on the satin weave. Moreover, three small gold-plated stars mark its surface — a detail you have to look twice to find.

The pearl

The pearl I choose for Tara is AA quality — naturally luminous, its surface catching light without demanding attention. Furthermore, three gold-plated stars sit on the pearl itself, making the piece personal. Because they are small, they do not compete with the iridescence. Still, once you notice them, you cannot stop looking.

The closure

Tara closes with an adjustable sliding knot. Therefore, the length stays in your hands — worn tight at the throat or drawn lower on the chest. Moreover, two small freshwater pearls finish the cord ends as stoppers. In this way, even the back of the necklace carries a detail. Tara works as well with bare skin as with a white shirt.

I make this freshwater pearl macramé choker necklace by hand, knotting the satin cord until the weave is even and tight. Still, it is the contrast that holds the piece — black macramé against white pearl, rough texture against smooth iridescence. As a result, the piece feels both strong and delicate. In this way, it reflects how I work: by hand, in Greece.
