I work slowly with Arabelle, because the bead placement matters. Each small gold-plated bead goes onto the cord by hand, one by one, until the spacing settles right. There are two clusters, one on each side of the central pearl. Between them sits the baroque pearl — and this baroque pearl gold bracelet holds its meaning in that gap.

A Baroque Pearl Gold Bracelet Built on Contrast

The beads are square and gold-plated, surface finely engraved. The baroque freshwater pearl at the centre — 12 to 14mm, AA+ quality — is white. Its nacre shifts between cream and faint rose in the light. Although slightly irregular, each piece is its own. Against the gold, the pearl reads as something found rather than fashioned — which is what it is.

The Cord and the Closure

The cord is braided gold satin, fine and supple. At the back, a hand-braided gold knot allows the bracelet to adjust, so Arabelle can sit close to the wrist or ride higher on the forearm. Two small baroque pearls then finish the cord ends. Together with the gold work, they give the piece a finish that feels complete without being excessive.

I make Arabelle without a template. The bead spacing, the knot tension — each one takes time to get right. Still, Arabelle arrives in its JLL Pearl pouch with a certificate of authenticity. Because I work with natural pearls, no two pieces carry the same surface.
