Ella by JLL Pearl

Ella is the round pearl gold flower choker I built around a single gesture: one small gold flower between every pearl. The pearls are large freshwater rounds, growing in size from the sides toward the centre. On either side of each pearl, I set a flower cap in gold by hand, until the rhythm feels right.

The pearls

The round freshwater pearl I choose for Ella carries a soft natural lustre between cream and white. Moreover, because each pearl grows slightly different, no two strands follow exactly the same rhythm. Against the warmth of the gold cap, the white reads as something unhurried, something old.

The cord and the closure

The cord is nude satin — fine and supple, almost invisible against the skin. The closure is a sliding knot, which means you can wear Ella tight at the base of the throat or lower on the collarbone. Furthermore, two small pearl ends finish the cord — a quiet detail that makes the piece feel complete. Therefore, it works as well with an open collar as with bare skin.

I make Ella slowly, cap by cap. As a result, each piece finds its own balance. Still, I make this round pearl gold flower choker for every day, not for occasions. In this way, it reflects how I work: by hand, in Greece, without shortcuts.

Ella arrives in its JLL Pearl pouch with a certificate of authenticity. Because I work with natural pearls, no two pieces are identical.

• Pearls: large round and near-round freshwater pearls, white, graduated in size
• Spacers: gold flower caps, set by hand between each pearl
