Ios started with the flower spacers. I had a set of small gold-plated fittings — each one shaped like a daisy, about 6mm. But the right bracelet for them had not come to me yet. Three round freshwater pearls, 8mm, quality AA, eventually gave me the answer. The result is a gold macramé pearl bracelet built around one sequence: pearl, flower spacer, pearl, flower spacer, pearl.

The structure came together in one sitting. That does not always happen. When it does, I know the starting point was right.

Gold Against White

A golden satin cord was the only material I considered. I wanted the cord and the flower spacers to belong to the same territory — both gold — so the three white pearls stand out clearly against them. The macramé knots also keep each pearl firmly in position. Each flower spacer sits flat between two pearls, barely raised above the weave.

Made to Slide

This gold macramé pearl bracelet closes with a sliding knot instead of a clasp. The golden cord adjusts smoothly until the fit is right. Two small freshwater pearls finish the cord ends and hold the sliding knot in place. Ios sits close to the wrist and moves naturally with it.

Ios arrives in its JLL Pearl pouch with a certificate of authenticity. Because these are natural freshwater pearls, each bracelet carries its own slight variations in lustre and surface. That is part of what makes each one its own piece.
