Romy by JLL Pearl

Romy is the white topaz pendant hematite necklace I made for the days when something has to catch the light. A pear-cut white topaz in a gold and yellow sapphire halo hangs from a chain of gold hematite beads — dense, close-set, and warm.

The pendant

The topaz I chose for Romy is pear-cut — a shape that follows the line of the collarbone. Moreover, the gold halo of yellow sapphires gives it a presence it would not have alone. Because the hematite beads are uniform and close-set, they become a quiet frame that makes the pendant read clearly. Still, nothing in this piece is excessive.

How to wear it

Romy closes with a sliding knot on a fine black satin cord, adjustable from close at the throat to just below the collarbone. Furthermore, each cord end finishes with one small white pearl and one black onyx bead — a detail that feels considered rather than decorative. Therefore, it works as well with a simple shirt as with a bare neckline.

I make each Romy by hand, placing every hematite bead until the weight and spacing feel right. As a result, this white topaz pendant hematite necklace takes time — which is why I make it in very limited numbers. In this way, it reflects how I work: with care, in Greece, for the long term.

Romy arrives in its JLL Pearl pouch with a certificate of authenticity. Because each stone is natural, no two pieces are exactly alike.
